After visiting Quechee Gorge, we decided to spend a little more time checking out local attractions in Norwich, Vermont. While we were looking around, my boys spotted a brochure for the Montshire Museum of Science, and right away, they wanted to go.
I’m Shenne’ Davies, a lifestyle and fashion content creator, a wife, and mama to my two sweet boys, Bentley and Harley. I am always looking for family activities that feel fun, simple, and meaningful, especially when we travel. I love places where the kids can explore, ask questions, touch things, and actually be part of the experience instead of just walking around quietly. The Montshire Museum of Science turned out to be exactly that kind of place.
My First Impressions of Montshire Museum of Science
The museum was easy to find, located just off Exit 13 of Interstate 91. From the outside, it did not look especially large, so I was not sure what to expect at first. But once we got inside, I quickly realized there was so much more to see and do than I imagined.

The space felt welcoming, bright, and family-friendly. It had that perfect mix of learning and play, which is exactly what works best for my boys. Bentley was ready to run toward anything that looked hands-on, while Harley was taking everything in with his own sweet curiosity.
The Bubble Exhibit Was an Instant Favorite

The first place the boys headed was the bubble exhibit. Honestly, I could not blame them. There were tubes of bubbling foam, floating bubbles, and even a bubble booth that pulled them in right away.
Bentley was completely fascinated by the movement and size of the bubbles, and Harley loved watching them drift around. It was one of those simple exhibits that feels magical through a child’s eyes.
Right away, they were involved in hands-on experiments, and I loved seeing them learn without even realizing they were learning.
Creative Fun in the Tinkering Lab

Next, we spent time in the Tinkering Lab, and this was another big favorite for us. There were supplies for creating a marble run that could trigger a chain reaction, and the boys had so much fun building their own little contraptions.
Bentley got really into the creative side of it, trying to figure out where each piece should go. Harley loved watching the marbles move from one part to the next. I joined in too, and it quickly became one of those activities where we all forgot about the time.
We probably could have stayed there for hours, but we had a long drive home waiting for us.
So Many Hands-On Exhibits to Explore

The museum has a wide variety of exhibits, programs, and events, which makes it feel like the kind of place you could visit more than once and still find something new.
We explored different areas of the museum, from aquarium tanks with turtles and fish to musical instruments and problem-solving games. There was also a live leafcutter ant display, which I found really interesting.
I always love when a museum is not just fun for the kids but also enjoyable for the adults. This was one of those places where I found myself learning right along with Bentley and Harley.
A Gift Shop With More Than Just Toys
Of course, we could not miss the gift shop. It was large, easy to spot, and filled with plenty of things to look at.
My boys are definitely not the type to walk past a gift shop without noticing it, but I appreciated that this one had more than just basic toys and stuffed animals. There were quite a few science-based items, books, kits, and hands-on products that actually connected with the museum experience.
It felt like the kind of gift shop where kids could bring a little bit of the learning home with them.
Outdoor Exhibits, Water Play, and Trails
One of my favorite things about the Montshire Museum of Science is that it is not limited to indoor exhibits. There is also a lot to explore outside, which makes the visit feel even more special.
Outside, there are water features, a splash area, interpretive trails, and outdoor exhibits. This is such a great setup for families because kids can move between indoor learning and outdoor play.
There is also a pavilion with a summer cafe where families can buy food, drinks, and frozen treats. That is always helpful when traveling with kids because someone is usually hungry, thirsty, or ready for a little break.
Exploring the Trails With Bentley and Harley

We did not have as much time outside as I would have liked, but the boys still had fun with the outdoor exhibits. They played with an outdoor piano and checked out a trail on our way out that explored the solar system.
There are several trails on the property, with plenty of signs along the way. I loved that the trails vary in length, from very short walks to longer paths, so families can choose what works best for their kids.
It was such a nice way to stretch our legs, let Bentley and Harley burn off some energy, and enjoy a little nature before getting back on the road.
Why We Loved Our Visit
Our whole family had a wonderful time exploring the Montshire Museum of Science. Everything felt thoughtful, well-designed, and easy for kids to enjoy. The exhibits were clearly labeled, the activities were hands-on, and the outdoor space made the museum feel even bigger and more exciting.
As a mom, I really appreciate places that give my children room to be curious. Bentley and Harley both found things they loved, and I loved watching them explore in their own ways.
I only wish we lived closer because this is the kind of place where you could easily spend a full day. If we were nearby, I could definitely see us getting a membership and coming back often to enjoy the exhibits, trails, programs, and seasonal events.
The Montshire Museum of Science was fun, educational, and full of little moments that made our family trip even more memorable.
